New Financial Malware Targets Poker Players with “PokerGrabber” Module

Russian cybercrime forum posts advertising details of I2P malware which can hijack poker players’ machines.

  • i2Ninja is a Russian malware product that is targeting the online poker industry.
  • It uses the I2P shadow internet to allow peer to peer communication and access users privately stored information—and the authors even promise help desk support.
  • The software allows buyers to grab information from forms and emails, and includes “PokerGrabber” which works with “the most popular clients – 888poker, Absolute Poker, Cake Poker, Full Tilt Poker, Party Poker, PokerStars, Titan Poker.”

PartyPoker to Implement “More Transparent” Funds Confiscation Policy

Another player protest cancelled at Party.

  • Players asked PartyPoker to comment publicly on its policy for reimbursing players that were victims of cheating with funds confiscated from the cheating players’ accounts.
  • “As they have taken notice of the issues and with the threat of a ban, I don’t really want to be the one heading a protest that might get everyone’s accounts banned,” wrote the protest organizer.
  • A previous “sit out” demonstration over the opaque skill segregation policy at the poker room, was also subsequently postponed after PartyPoker killed the policy 24 hours before the protest was scheduled to commence.

YouTube has agreed to block Norwegian language gambling advertising following complaints by the Norwegian regulator, the Gaming and Foundation Authority. The regulator complained about 122 videos which breached national anti-gambling laws.


Spain’s Socialists Demand that Losses Should Not be Offset Against Winnings for Tax Purposes

The Spanish Socialist Group has proposed that player’s gambling losses should not be offset against their winnings, arguing that it is inconsistent with other industries, and represents a pandering to demands by the gaming industry.


Bulgarian Gambling Tax Changes Delayed

Socialist MPs complain that they have not been properly consulted on proposed changes. Bulgarian members of Parliament have elected to postpone a vote on proposals to reduce gaming taxes. The vote will not now take place until the next Parliamentary session in the New Year.
