GVC in Hot Pursuit of bwin.party

The price of (party) poker just went up. Less than a week after bwin.party’s Board of Directors agreed to a deal in principle that would allow 888 Holdings to acquire the company, a new higher bid has been presented by competitor GVC.

The latest offer by GVC amounts to more than $1.5 billion, approximately $140 million more than the offer by 888. Expect plenty of debate over which deal has the potential to play out the best for the online poker industry. It will also be interesting to monitor the industry’s response and speculation concerning the bwin.party poker products should the GVC deal go through.
