The Indian Supreme Court ruling on a case which was expected to determine the legality of playing Rummy for money has avoided making a final determination of the issue.

For technical legal reasons, the Court first decided not to rule on the online version of the game, and then restricted the case to an issue which did not involve Rummy.

However, by not ruling on the question, the Supreme Court has let stand judicial precedent, including its own prior rulings, which state that a game of skill played for money is not subject to India’s gambling laws or taxes.
