Mediarex, parent company of the Global Poker Index, has launched an alpha version of HoldemX, a new free-play game that adds strategy elements to the traditional heads-up hold’em game.

The game plays like traditional poker with the added element of “xCards,” additional cards that can be played after each betting round that manipulate the hand in some way.

“We believe that after 12 years, the online poker industry—across social, freemium ‘real money’ corridors—needs to adopt new, fun and innovative games in order to bring back disengaged players and effectively target new generations of gamers,” explains Mediarex head Alex Dreyfus in a press release.
