Event #56: $1500 No-Limit Hold’em

This is the first gold bracelet of Peters’ career having come second in a WSOP event back in 2010 and third in 2015. He does have a WSOP circuit ring so he is certainly building up his jewelry collection.

Event #57: $1500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Split-8 or Better

David Nowakowski, a 28 year old poker grinder from Voorhees NJ won the first bracelet of his career in Event #57. He also won the top prize of $203,113 defeating runner up Timothy Vukson from Canada.

Splitting his time between the States and Panama, Nowakowski said about his win: “I played for five years at the WSOP, but then decided to take two years off just to play online poker down in Panama. I guess I picked the right time to come back.”

Beating 732 players to the title, Nowakowski took on both pros and semi professionals at the final table.

“I played rush Omaha online, but haven’t played a lot of PLO High-Low recently,” Nowakowski went on to say. “I definitely wanted to win this. It’s a dream come true. It’s still all a bit surreal to me.”

Marco Johnson missed out on his third WSOP win, finishing up third.

Event #58: $1000 No-Limit Hold’em (30-minute levels)

Corey Thompson, a poker pro from Florida who comes from a working class background made his dreams come true, winning Event #58. It was his first final table appearance and biggest win of his career, winning $221,163.

In a humbling winners quote Thompson said: “I come from a working-class background. My mother cleans houses for a living. My father mowed grass and did yardwork. I know what it’s like to work for a living. I know the value of money.”

Thompson went on to say: “It’s been a huge year. I don’t play cash games that much. I’ve been playing more tournaments. The HPT win was really huge. I really caught fire since then. I started coming out here (to the WSOP) four years ago, but mostly played just a few smaller events. This win was huge.”

The turbo structured format of this event meant that the tournament incorporated 30 minute levels, instead of the usual hour long duration.

Enrico Rudelitz from Germany finished as runner up.
