Global Poker League Action Heats Up Global Poker League Action Heats Up

It is week 11 of the Global Poker League and with a strong performance yesterday the Hong Kong Stars were able to edge their way into second place in the Eurasia division. On Wednesday they will face the first place Moscow Wolverines in a heads up battle.

You can catch all the action from yesterday which includes Paris Aviator Davidi Kitai playing in a dressing gown—he couldn’t be more European if he tried.

Elsewhere in the Eurasia, the middle of the pack London Royals and Paris Aviators face off at 2.30pm EDT and at the bottom of the standings, the Rome Emperors take on the Berlin Bears at 5pm.

Thursday sees the New York Rounders pitted against the Sao Paulo Mets at 1pm, and the Las Vegas Moneymakers who are at the bottom of the pack will face the Americas division leaders and team with the most points, the Montreal Nationals at 3.30pm. The day finishes with the San Francisco Rush vs the LA Sunset.

Partnership with PokerStars

In other news it was announced last week that online poker giant PokerStars had signed up as lead sponsor and exclusive online poker sponsor of the Global Poker League —a huge win for the fledgling outfit.

Details are being kept vague as to how the partnership will work apart from a press release stating that the companies will work “on a number of promotional initiatives designed to connect both existing and prospective poker fans to the GPL.”

Many PokerStars Team Pros, including Liv Boeree, Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Randy “nanonoko” Lew are already working with the GPL as team managers or players.

Summer Series

Looking back, here we can reminisce on the GPL Summer Series. Spoiler: Sorel Mizzi gets “motivated with the spirit of the mythical bear-wolf.” Yep. But this is the man that creates his own moral universe, so really it isn’t that weird.
