Key Takeaways

The implementation of US anti-money laundering regulations means that players at this year’s WSOP will be required to show a photo ID and provide proof of their address.

The requirement was released on Twitter by the WSOP.

“All companies involved in big financial transactions received an e-mail about this last week stating that an attempt should be made to verify residency of international customers,”WSOP Media Director Seth Palansky explained to igaming.org.

Palansky expanded the advice saying, “any phone bill, gas bill, credit card bill, drivers license or rent statement would help with the identification process as long as it has your address information. In the end, in order to get paid out, you need to [prove] some form of residency.”

He later clarified that the inability to provide proof of residency would not prevent players from playing in WSOP events, but will prevent them from withdrawing funds after playing online while they are in Nevada. State law requires proof of residency before withdrawals can be made.

To be confident, players should ensure a photo ID together with utility or tax bills showing their residential address are packed alongside hoodies and sunglasses before setting off to play in this year’s events.
