California

Following the removal of online poker from its agenda last week, the California Assembly Governmental Oversight Committee by a 17-1 margin passed Adam Gray’s AB 1437 which seeks to legalize daily fantasy sports.

The California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) was not happy to see online poker brushed aside with Chairman Steve Stallings calling for online poker to be legalized before daily fantasy sports are considered.

“The regulation of fantasy sports is well intended. However, the state needs to prove it can deal with one online game–I-Poker—before it takes on others,” said Stallings.

The Pechanga Tribe and members of its coalition continue to hold back their approval for any online poker legislation unless a bad actor provision is included and race tracks are excluded as potential online poker licensees.
