Flutter Entertainment plc, parent company of PokerStars, has settled with the state of Kentucky regarding an 11-year old claim to collect losses on behalf of Kentucky players that played on PokerStars during a period between 2006 and 2011.
In December last year, the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned a previous Court of Appeals decision and ordered the company to pay $1.3 billion. Flutter was in the process of petitioning the US Supreme Court to consider the case.
The state had already collected $100 million as a first payment towards a court judgement. As part of this week’s deal, Flutter will pay a further $200 million to settle the case.
“The legal dispute between Flutter and the Commonwealth of Kentucky has now been settled in full,” the company announced Wednesday.
“After 10 long years,” stated Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in a separate press statement, “the commonwealth has not only prevailed, but collected dollars that the General Assembly will be able to direct to critical areas, like education, health care and economic development.”
