California

The California Assembly passed the Internet Fantasy Sports Games Protection Act (AB 1437) just days following a hearing on the topic. Online poker supporters are up in arms over the speed at which the legislation has moved through the legislature considering online poker has been before them for several years and has yet to reach a full Assembly vote.

The Poker Player Alliance and the LA Times are calling for lawmakers to consider all online gaming in their bid to protect consumers in the state.

PPA Executive Director John Pappas quickly pointed out the hypocrisy of the legislature’s actions.

“If legislating consumer protections for DFS players is a priority for the legislature, the same should be true for Internet poker players … we urge the legislature to immediately move legislation that also protects Californians who want to play poker online through appropriate authorization and regulation.”
