French football team FC Girondins de Bordeaux has severed its ties with French gambling giant Winamax, following a series of derogatory tweets from the operator.

The club has terminated the partnership less than six months after inking a three-season deal for the poker and betting company to be its main shirt sponsor.

In Bordeaux’s opinion, the social media posts undermined their alliance, and it ended the agreement with immediate effect — supplanting the Winamax logo on its shirts with the insignia of Coeur Marine et Blanc – the club’s charitable foundation.

Bordeaux’s deputy general manager Thomas Jacquemier confirmed the club’s decision, stating, “We are terminating our partnership contract with Winamax, whose communication had dissociated itself from the club through videos or tweets about the last match. We have humour but here we are not in the spirit of a partnership.”
