North Carolina is close to becoming the 28th state with legal mobile sports betting after the Senate passed a bill authorizing the practice.

HB 347 cleared the state Senate on a 37-11 vote on Thursday and was immediately referred back to the House for concurrence. House lawmakers must agree to several amendments the Senate attached to the bill before it can be sent to Democratic Governor Roy Cooper for his signature.

A concurrence vote is expected in the coming days. House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) told WRAL-TV that the chamber is “going to concur Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Cooper has said he supports legalizing mobile sports betting and would sign the bill. Barring any last-minute issues with House concurrence, the governor could have the bill on his desk within days.
