For New York lawmakers, attempting to get legislation passed that would legalize online poker in New York has so far proven to be a decade-long exercise in futility — ten failed bills across five legislative sessions.

Here comes bill No. 11 … with No. 12 likely not far behind.

Optimism notwithstanding, the 11 online poker bills lawmakers have drafted over the years are identical in many ways. For example, each calls for amending the state’s Racing, Pari-Mutuel Wagering, and Breeding Law.

But the first four bills called for the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) to issue fewer interactive gaming licenses, and none of the five bills that started in the Senate specified the number of days for the regulator to promulgate rules for online poker.
