Sadly, PokerStars was unable to get together $800 million in prize money for its 800 millionth tournament, but 21,635 entrants was enough to produce a prize fund well over double the advertised $1 million.
Belgian tupac_srj won $216,359 for winning the event after more than 14 hours of play. The first two hours saw $100k in additional prizes distributed randomly, so profits went to more than just the 3,150 players who made the money.
The success of the event, and the heavily promoted tournaments which preceded it, make it more than likely that PokerStars' bosses will repeat the Carnival of Tournaments at regular intervals until the billionth tournament is reached.
It has taken 12 years for PokerStars to complete 800 million tournaments; the one billion mark should arrive in another couple of years. The $1 billion guaranteed tournament might take a little longer.
