Despite the fact that there is no current provision for online gambling in the state of Massachusetts, it is open for discussion in 2018 as legislation from State Senator Eileen Donoghue to legalize and regulate online gaming, daily fantasy sports and online sports betting (if federal restrictions are lifted) is on the table.

Massachusetts has been one of the more active states when considering online gaming legislation. In 2016 the state sanctioned a Special Commission to study online gaming including fantasy sports.

If online poker is legalized in Massachusetts, the state will have the advantage of learning from the trailblazing efforts of Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey. Situated on the east coast and with just under 7 million residents, Massachusetts has a very similar profile to New Jersey. However, with a population 2 million people short of New Jersey, Massachusetts will surely have to join the tri-state player pool otherwise it will almost certainly fall foul to liquidity problems due to it’s small size.
