PokerShield: A Free and Open Source System for Secure Online Poker Play

Developed by security contractor SeNet International, in partnership with pokerfuse, PokerShield is an open source operating system custom-designed to protect the online poker player.

  • The open source project is a collaborative effort between pokerfuse and software engineering and network security consulting firm SeNet.
  • The new tool promises to help “shield” players from such hazards as social engineering, phishing attacks, key loggers, hole card viewers and other hacking attempts by providing a complete bootable computer operating system that can be run from a CD, flash drive or installed on your computer’s hard drive.

PPA Clarifies Poker Skill-Game Argument Not Key to Regulation

In an interview with CalvinAyre.com’s Becky Liggero, Poker Player Alliance Executive Director John Pappas made a point of clarifying that, while the PPA supports the promotion of poker as a game of skill, it is not the primary strategy for achieving federal legislation.


WPT Alpha8 High Roller Tournaments Added in London and Johannesburg

Officials at the World Poker Tour (WPT) have announced two new stops for its super high roller Alpha8 tournament series. The first will take place in London, England this October, while the new Johannesburg, South Africa event is currently slated for February 2014.

  • WPT’s Alpha8 London tournament is a two-day affair, with re-entry.
  • The London event will come with a £100,000 buyin and will take place in Mayfair’s Palm Beach Casino on October 28, 2013.
  • On February 14, 2014 the high-stakes Alpha8 makes its way to the Emperors Palace Hotel & Casino Resort in Johannesburg, South Africa.
  • Both events are slated to be televised on FOX Sports 1.
