Delaware to Launch Internet Gambling October 31

Delaware will be the first state to offer regulated online gambling—other than poker—when it opens its virtual doors on October 31, 2013.

  • Speaking at the World Regulatory Briefing in Philadelphia on Tuesday, President and CEO of Dover Downs, Ed Sutor, announced that the state-wide program would be kicking off in nine days.
  • Scientific Games and 888 Holdings have been selected as the primary vendors for online gaming services in the state.

Suitability of Garber Questioned in Massachusetts

Previous internet gaming connections of Caesars Interactive CEO a concern for regulators.

  • Suitability issues surrounding Caesars Acquisition Company CEO Mitch Garber contributed to Caesars’ decision to withdraw a gaming license application in Massachusetts.
  • Garber served as CEO of PartyGaming plc (now bwin.party digital entertainment plc) from April 2006 to May 2008 and as CEO of Optional Payments Inc. from 2003-2006.
  • Caesars was partnered with Suffolk Downs and was in competition for a land-based casino license in the Boston area, but decided to withdraw its application following the report received by Massachusetts Gaming Commission on October 18.
  • The Massachusetts Gaming Commission cited a licensing agreement with Gansevoort Hotel Group along with the overall financial stability of Caesars Entertainment as other reasons for concern with the gaming giant’s suitability.

Money Bubble Bursts in WSOPE Main Event

The 7th Annual World Series of Poker Europe Main Event entered Day 3 today with 69 players left in a field where only 40 make the money. The tournament drew 375 entries, creating a prizepool €3,600,000 and promising an even €1,000,000 for the eventual winner.
