#386 – Poker Cast 386 – Max Steinberg, Phil Galfond & PokerStars VIP Changes

This week on the Pokercast: It’s been a very busy week and we’re back to bring you some exclusive interviews and a look into the PokerStars VIP changes. To kick things off our inductee to the Internet Pokers Wall of Fame is none other than Phil Galfond. Phil joins us to talk about his favourite high stakes battles over the years, among other things.

We then move on to “In Case You Missed It”, the big story of the week and probably the year is PokerStars/Amaya’s controversial changes to their VIP program. A program which has been the industry leader for many years. We run through the facts of the changes and also bring in a player who has achieved Supernova Elite many times, Mike Brooks a.k.a “MeleaB”. Mike weighs in on his view of how these changes will affect the future of online poker. Other stories this week include the conclusion of the investigation into the alleged WSOP 10k HU card marker, Bryan Micon’s sentence is reduced and inductees into the other Poker Hall of Fame.

The November Nine is upon us this weekend, we talk about the end of the ESPN coverage and bring in Nov. Niner Max Steinberg. Max is probably the most well known player this year, a bracelet winner with another deep run in the main. He joins us from Vegas to talk about his preparations for this weekend, clarifies some things that ESPN may have portrayed in the TV coverage and more. After a break we share the password to the Invitational this Sunday and review some hands in the Roscoe Report, with a surprise appearance from 2005 Adam!

#55 – Q&A

We are trying something new again this week for the Mental Game Podcast. One of the most popular things I have done, and has really resonated well with my audience are Ask Me Anything threads on forums like Reddit and 2+2. It’s been great for the person receiving advice to get something tailored to them, but more importantly almost all mental game issues are universal, so very often there’s something everyone can learn from them.

So we are introducing the format as a semi-regular feature on the podcast. This week we discuss:

• Does meditation help you get in the zone?
• How do you overcome a hatred of mistakes?
• Are psychological studies reliable?
• How can we prepare for high pressure situations that don’t happen often (like the final table of a poker tournament)?
• My views on medication in psychology

If you like the format, please let us know as we’re already planning to do it again. If you have a question just contact me at http://jaredtendler.com/contact/.
