Italian Cash Game Revenues Down 27%
Key Takeaways
  • The Italian regulated poker market revenues have declined by around a quarter. Globally poker revenues are down about 9%.
  • Measured against May 2013, cash game betting was down 26.9%.
  • Tournament poker revenues held up better, but they are still down 24.7% on last year’s numbers.

The Italian regulated poker market showed another—and for seasonal reasons, expected—decline in May.

However, when compared against last year’s figures, revenues for regulated poker have declined by more than a 25%. In comparison, the global online poker market is down 9% during the same period.

Italian underperformance has been ascribed by the regulator AAMS to a reduction in the game’s popularity, but industry research cite high taxes and a preference for playing on non-AAMS regulated sites as being more important.
