Day 2 of the Main Event of the European Poker Tour Barcelona brought together the returning players from both original starting days to merge into a single field of 697.

With registration open until the beginning of play today, 12pm local time, EPT officials hoped that this Main Event could break an EPT record for most runners in a non-PCA event.

At the end of play on Day 1B, the second of two Day 1’s, the field pushed upwards of 1226 players meaning that only another 15 shot takers would need to put up the $5000+$300 Main Event buyin to best the current record of 1240 held by Season 6’s stop of EPT Sanremo.

While the start of Season 10 in Barcelona came close, they would have to be runner-up to the record as the PokerStars Blog reported that the final numbers for EPT Barcelona maxed out at 1,234 players. That being the case, the prize pool swelled to roughly €6,000,000 and there were plenty of big names set to return to try and claim their share including quite a few Team PokerStars Pros, .

By midday on Day 2 we saw the elimination of former WSOP Champ Jonathan Duhamel as well as Dan Smith, Mickey Petersen, Eugene Katchalov, James Dempsey, Gaelle Baumann, Max Lykov, Marcel Luske, Vanessa Selbst, Bryn Kenney and High Roller Final Table finisher Fabian Quoss.
