The Vienna Mind Sports Festival, an event that includes popular heady games like poker and chess and the obscure apterous, is slated for February.

The two-week mental challenge with main events, satellites and side events, runs from February 11-25. Along with a WPT tournament, there’s open-face Chinese poker, backgammon, chess, risk, scrabble, bridge Magic the Gathering, and eSports.

Also featured is Apterous, a game of word and number puzzles, based off the British game show Countdown.

Along with the WPT Vienna, a $3,500 re-entry with two day 1s held from February 19-24 at Montesino Casino, there is also an $1100 buy-in Grand Series of Poker tournament from February 13-16.

A few non-poker events are scheduled at the Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna Hotel.

The mental “sporting” festival launched earlier this month with an inaugural event in Prague, which included the 864-player EPT Prague Main Event won by Ramzi Jelassi, who collected €835,000 ($1,091,418).

“Mind sports do not require expensive equipment or physical ability,” the Mind Sports International site proclaims. “They can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere, promoting equality and intellectual development.”
