The Calvin Ayre Foundation, an independent charitable organization created by the gambling titan Calvin Ayre, announced earlier today that it would match all donations by the gaming industry to relief efforts of Super Typhoon Haiyan up to $1 million.
Super Typhoon Haiyan, called one of the strongest storms ever to reach land, has officials fearing thousands dead and over 650,000 displaced in the Philippine Central Islands.
The foundation is asking those in the gaming industry to assist by donating to the charity of their choice. Once done, one can then email a copy of their receipt to the foundation who will match, dollar for dollar up to $1 million.
In addition, Calvin Ayre himself has pledged $200,000 of his personal fortune to helping those in need. According to CalvinAyre.com, the Philippines are home to a number of online gambling companies that have found success in the region in part due to the government and the people of the Philippines.
The foundation is also in the process of “adopting a village” and sending agents to the region where they plan on self-administering assistance to the area and people in need.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation has recommended the Philippine Red Cross and the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundations as organizations where donations will do the most to help.
