Winamax Nudges Ahead of PokerStars.fr to Become Top Online Poker Room in France

According to latest figures from industry tracker PokerScout, independent French poker room Winamax has become the largest cash game room in the French regulated market, going ahead of PokerStars.fr for the very first time.

PokerScout ranks poker networks according to a rolling 7-day average of cash game players. According to the latest update on Friday morning, Winamax boasts 1760 average players, out-pipping PokerStars.fr with 1700 players. It is the first time since the regulated French market opened up in early 2010 that Winamax has been the top dog, and it is the only market that PokerStars does not dominate.

Operating on proprietary software, Winamax may not be well known outside of France, but its traffic figures impress. It now ranks seventh worldwide, ahead of international networks Merge and Microgaming and now snapping at the heals of PokerStars.it and Ongame to get into the top five. Over the latest six months, traffic numbers are up over 75%.

One small disclaimer: Numbers are self-reported by Winamax and unverified by PokerScout. So perhaps these figures should be taken with a pinch of sel.
