Key Takeaways
  • “New Betfair Poker” will run alongside its existing offering on Ongame, now dubbed “Classic Betfair.”
  • After six months, Betfair customers will be transitioned to iPoker only, and the Ongame room will close.

Betfair Poker will shortly join the iPoker network, the company announced on its blog on Monday.

According to the post, “New Betfair Poker” will run alongside its existing offering on Ongame, now dubbed “Classic Betfair.”

However, according to a press release from iPoker operator Playtech yesterday, the dual offering is only an interim step. After six months, Betfair customers will be transitioned to iPoker only, and the Ongame room will close.

Betfair will launch in the “top” tier of the iPoker network, sources have indicated to pokerfuse. The network separated in two in September 2012, with a small handful of the larger skins segregating much of their cash-game players onto separate tables.

Betfair will join Bet365, Paddy Power, Poker770, Titan, William Hill, Winner Poker, and late addition Everest Poker, on this top tier.

The announcement yesterday was expected. Betfair announced back in September that it planned to launch Spanish and Italian products on the iPoker network, and it was hinted then that a larger poker partership was on the cards.

Publicly listed Betfair, primarily an online betting exchange, previously operated an independent poker room using proprietary software before moving to Ongame in July 2010.
