- Self-exclusion list extended to online gaming in New Jersey prior to November 26 launch.
- Players can sign up for 1 year, 5 years or lifetime self exclusions.
- Everyone who signs up, in person or on line, gets a free consultation with a gambling counselor.
The self-exclusion system in New Jersey is being extended to online gambling in preparation for the November 26 start date. Players who are already on the list excluding themselves from Atlantic City casinos will automatically be included on the online version.
The Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) Director, David Rebuck said, “making the application process available to the public prior to Internet gaming’s go-live date of November 26, 2013, represents a commitment I made following the signing of the Internet gaming bill,” according to the Associated Press.
Players who are worried that they may have a gambling problem and would therefore benefit from self-exclusion can sign up online or at a number of locations. Self exclusion can be for online only and for a period of one year, five years or life.
Players who have taken the step are not allowed to enter any casino in New Jersey or make any bets online. If they evade the controls, their winnings may be forfeited.
Donald Weinbaum, executive director of New Jersey’s Council on Compulsive Gambling, supports the system: “For persons experiencing problems as a result of their gambling, self-exclusion can be a very useful tool.”
Those who sign up for self-exclusion are entitled to a free consultation with a gambling counselor using the 1-800-GAMBLER telephone number or at www.800gambler.org.
