The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Goliath event ended after drawing a record attendance of 3,394 players.

The Goliath broke the record for the largest live poker tournament field ever outside the US.

The previous record was set last month when the 2014 Beijing Millions—sponsored by PokerStars—attracted 2,732 participants. The Asia Pacific Poker Tour event surpassed the the mark of 2,570 players set by the 2013 Goliath event.

The buy-in was deliberately set at a low £100 in order to build the big field, following the principle that worked so well at this year’s WSOP with the $1,500 Monster Stack, event #55.

In addition to the low buy-in, there were six starting days, leaving a field of 507 to start Day 2.

The event formed part of the eighth season of the GUKPT which features a mix of £500 and £1,000 Main Events. All the main events carry £100k and £200k guarantees respectively and a grand final guarantees £400k.

The lower buy-in of the Goliath tournament produced a first prize of £62,120 for Ryan Foster.

Foster’s win was his second in the GUKPT. In 2011, he won a £110 No Limit Hold’em – Bounty Event in the Grosvenor Casino in Plymouth—his take home from that event was slightly lower £1,041.
