ChampionChip Main Event Misses Optimistic Guarantee ChampionChip Main Event Misses Optimistic Guarantee

The 888poker ChampionChip Games have now concluded with the Main Event finishing on August 16. The summer sports themed series was aimed at a lower bankroll range than the typical big series, with an average buy-in of just $15. Overall, the series came close to hitting the total guarantees, but several individual events broke guarantee by significant margins.

The ChampionChip Games ran from August 8 to August 16 as a series aimed at smaller bankrolls. Players could take a shot at a ChampionChip event for as little as $2.20, and even the biggest game of the whole series was just $55 to get in. Overall, the series guaranteed $735,000, most of which was locked up in the optimistic $500,000 guarantee for the Main Event.

In the end, the series didn’t quite hit that lofty goal. The Main Event drew an impressive 9,060 total entries, but that was not enough to make the half-million dollar guarantee. The game collected more than $450,000, and only missed by about 9%.

Excluding the Main Event, the numbers are actually in the green. The Main Event missed the guarantee by $47,000, but ignoring that game, the rest of the series collected $261,499 on guarantees of $235,500. That still meant the series was -$21,001 in the hole overall, but $25,999 above the line excluding the Main.

The Games in Review

It was a pretty even split across the series, with 12 events breaking guarantee and 12 events missing. With so much of the value in the summer sports-themed series locked up in the $50 Main Event, the overall success of the series from a guarantee perspective always depended on that game doing well.

In the end, it attracted more than 9,000 total entries across multiple Day 1 flights, but that was not quite enough to hit the $500,000 guarantee. That meant the game missed its guarantee by about 9%, but that translated to a $47,000 deficit that the operator had to make up.

The rest of the series actually crushed the guarantees, with one game blowing past the guarantee by more than 50%. Overall, excluding the Main Event, the series was $25,999 over guarantees, showing a strong desire from players for low buy-in series.

Just under 30,000 players took a shot at a medal across the ChampionChip Games, but most of that number was loaded into the more than 9,000 in the Main Event. Three other games grabbed more than 1,000 entries, though, and with the inflated Main Event numbers, the series averaged 1,221 players per game.

The ChampionChip Games started on August 8, with Day 2 of the Main Event capping the series on August 16. Coming up for 888poker on August 29 is another Sunday Sale, and there are ongoing chances to win big with The Road to Vegas.
