Poker’s Unibet Open Antwerp Gets Underway Despite High Security Alert

Not letting the tragedies of the past week stand in their way, Unibet’s high-profile Open Antwerp tournament series started as planned today in Belgium’s “second city.”

The event will run till November 29 and is hosted in the Casino Blankenberge. The €1,000+€100 Main Event kicked off at midday Thursday.

Although safety will be Unibet’s top priority over the next 4 days, with their recent press release stating that they have taken extra security measures to “ensure a safe environment for all their guests,” an all out entertainment experience is still to be expected.

With famous Belgium DJs for Saturday’s Player Party (DJ Dimaro and Double Pleasure), along with a party bus that includes poker chips, cards and a DJ that will continuously take players to and from the tournament room, it seems that no expense has been spared in making this a tournament to remember.

For the who’s who of the event, look out for the World Series of Poker Main Event finalist Pierre Neuville and former Irish Open winner Kevin Vandersmissen, two of Belgium’s finest players, who will be participating in the Open, as is former EPT champion Ruben Visser and Dutch all-time money list leader Marcel Luske.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones going to Antwerp to experience the tournament first hand, don’t worry: Unibet has set up a live stream that will run daily from start to finish, with expert commentary and constant interaction with fans via YouTube and Twitch.

I wonder if they have a live feed on that party bus…?
