2012 European Poker Tour (EPT) Champion of Champions Mohsin “ChicagoCards”Charania took down the World Poker Tour (WPT) Grand Prix de Paris after being a massive underdog.
Mohsin’s heads up opponent, Vasili Firsau had a seven to one chip advantage. When Firsau started the final table, he had over half the chips in play and was a statistical favorite to win. Those odds kept improving as he eliminated four more players before getting heads up.
The last lady to go was Christina Lindley in fifth place. Her A-K ran into A-A and that was the end of her chance to be the first woman to win a WPT open. Peter Apostolu also damned the poker gods as his Q-Q against A-K fell to a river king, putting him into third place.
Matt Salsberg's run at a repeat victory—after being champion last year—petered out in 12th place.
Vasili Firsau saw his lead wax and wane throughout the heads up match. Ultimately a race decided it as Mohsin Charania found that T-T was better than A-Q. Final score, $469k for Charania and $318k for Firsau.
Charania’s victory in the EPT Grand Final, Tournament of Champions, in Monte Carlo last April remains his biggest win at €1.35m, but almost half a million for the WPT Grand Prix de Paris is worth a big smile.
