Key Takeaways
  • The $100k rebuy event attracted a record field of 47 entries and 12 re-entries.
  • Seiver ran 99 into the TT of Sands, but spiked a 9 to cripple Sands.

With his first win in nine months, Scott Seiver took down the $100k Super High Roller at the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

He collected $2,003,480—his biggest cash—for the win, after defeating David Sands in heads up play.

“It’s just so fantastic to get to win a tournament like this,” Seiver said. “You’re sitting around with all the best players in the entire world, you somehow end up on top, and you get to share the moment with all your friends. It’s really everything I would ever want. So it’s perfect.”

Seiver’s last win came in April 2012 at the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker V in Vienna.

The 27-year-old outlasted a record field in an event with a buy-in of $100,000 or more. There were 47 entries and 12 re-entries, with pros including Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Antonio Esfandiari, Erik Seidel, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and Vanessa Selbst.

Early on at the final table, Seiver set the tone for his win, even though Sands had the chip lead.

Seiver won a three-way all-in, holding AA v KQ and KJ, eliminating Dan Shak and doubling through Greg Jensen. At the start of heads-up play, Sands held an 8.6 million to 6.1 million chip lead.

But Seiver won with 99, spiking a 9 on the flop, v Sands’ TT and took a commanding lead. Shortly after, Seiver’s A7 held against Sands’ K4 and Seiver took the 2013 trophy.

Seiver said he enjoys big buy-in events the most because players are familiar and friendly with each other.

“There’s just such a great table dynamic at all times,” he said. “It’s genuinely the most fun I get to have playing poker. And then winning helps also.”
