Key Takeaways
  • England’s Jake Cody is the latest PokerStars Team Pro, following the end of a 1-year sponsorship deal with PKR.

Jake Cody, the youngest player to win poker’s Triple Crown, has been named the newest member of Team PokerStars Pro.

“It has been a long term goal for a while now,” Cody is quoted as saying. “For it to finally happen feels like a dream come true.”

He called it “the holy grail of poker sponsorship.”

Cody is one of only four players to win an EPT, WPT and WSOP event, referred to as poker’s triple crown. He took down the €5k EPT Deauville for $1.2m in January 2010, the £5k WPT London for 430k in August 2010 and the $25k WSOP Heads-Up Championship for $851,192 in May 2011.

Cody was previously sponsored by UK-based PKR, a niche online poker room with UK focus.

Now 24, Cody was in the Bahamas to play the $10k PCA Main Event when the announcement was made. He joins the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and Vanessa Selbst as well as fellow British Team Pros Vicky Coren and Liv Boeree.

Cody has collected more than $3m in live tournament winnings throughout his young career, according to PokerStars.

Negreanu placed the PokerStars patch on Cody’s hoodie Tuesday.

“PokerStars always looks for young up-and-coming ambassadors for the game and I feel like we’ve found a gem,” Negreanu said. “He combines poker skill with a gentlemanly demeanor as is expected in a PokerStars Team Pro.”
