PokerStars on FanDuel has officially returned to Alberta. A few days back, the operator made an announcement that it would be coming back to the newly regulated market, but it gave no details as to when this might happen. Luckily for the players, it wasn’t a long wait.

The new platform went live earlier today, giving Alberta online poker players another safe and regulated option in addition to 888. 888 was the first operator to launch poker in the province, going live on October 13, 2026.

In accordance with the new igaming regulation, PokerStars stopped accepting Alberta players on its international platform a few weeks back. Now, the operator is back as PokerStars on FanDuel, a new brand that has been active in Ontario as well as regulated US markets of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

Alberta-Only Player Pool, for Now

Just like 888, PokerStars on FanDuel Alberta has launched as a ring-fenced site, catering only to players physically located in the province. This was an expected development, as Ontario and Alberta are yet to reach an agreement that would make sharing player pools possible.

The good news is that the two provinces are actively working on creating such an agreement, and there are no legal obstacles to it. This means that players from Alberta and Ontario could find themselves sitting at the same virtual tables in the (near) future.

For now, though, players from Alberta can enjoy a selection of cash games, tournaments, and Spin & Go games on a completely safe, legal, and licensed site. The operator will be focusing on building a strong and vibrant ecosystem within the province, while staying ready for future growth possibilities.

New Platform Means New Accounts

PokerStars was very active in Alberta prior to regulatory changes, and many players had an account on the international platform. With the launch of PokerStars on FanDuel, those accounts will not be transferred to the new site.

All players from Alberta will need to create a fresh account and download new software and/or mobile apps. Those who signed up for a FanDuel Casino account before will be able to log into the poker app using that information, and they don’t need a separate poker account.

PokerStars on FanDuel already has a lot of experience with fresh launches thanks to its US and Ontario experiences, so we expect a fairly smooth process as far as technical things are concerned.

As for what we can expect from the latest Alberta poker site, that remains to be seen.

If the past is anything to go by, PokerStars on FanDuel will seek to make its presence known by launching a tournament series of some description, motivating players to join the action. This is what the operator did in Ontario, and although Alberta is a smaller market, PokerStars has demonstrated it’s not afraid to give away some value to make an impact.

Assuming a strong market position early on is important for the future, too. Right now, there are only two sites operating in Alberta, and there is no player sharing. All that could change, though, with the Ontario-Alberta network looming, and even a possibility of rejoining the international player pool in the cards.

PokerStars on FanDuel is now in a position to seize the momentum, capture a significant portion of the player pool in the province, and be fully prepared for these positive shifts as and when they happen.
