Spanish Socialist Group Proposes an End to Poker Bonuses and Loyalty Schemes
Citing concerns about addictive behavior, the Socialist parliamentary group continues its assault on online poker.
- The Socialist party in Spain has made a non-legislative proposal to end the practice of offering bonuses and other “inducements” to gamble.
- The prohibition would cover VIP loyalty schemes, that awarded points or prizes, and so rewarded “excessive consumption.”
- The proposals contain additional measures to “reduce the availability of gambling,” and reduce the potential for harm.
- Under the current centre-right government, there is little chance of the proposals being adopted.
Regulators in Rome Discussed Shared Liquidity Off the Agenda
Shared liquidity was seen as a possible solution to the declines in the Spanish and Italian poker markets.
- In spite of its absence from official reports, shared liquidity was discussed at the recent meeting of European regulators in Rome.
- An interview with gambling consultant Giovanni Carboni in PokrNews revealed the information.
- He also reported that UK Gambling Commission CEO, Jenny Williams, had expressed her commitment to shared liquidity and that he thought the UK could play an authoritative role in promoting shared liquidity to their European partners.
PokerStars Will “Continue to Monitor” Effects of New Mobile Indicator
PokerStars has confirmed that it will continue to monitor the effects of a new indicator, enabled by default in the client since an update last week, which shows whether a player is playing from a mobile device.
- “When deciding whether to implement the icon, PokerStars did consider the possibility of an impact on gameplay,” a PokerStars representative told pokerfuse.
- All players can disable the indicator from within the client, and mobile users can disable whether others can see their status, but it is enabled by default.
