Poker Podcast Reviews

Filthy Limper Radio has been climbing up my ladder of poker podcasts that I regularly check on. The guest list this week wasn’t the primary aspect that drew me to listen. Instead, it was the topic of Lock Poker that caught my eye. Readers of pokerfuse will recall that {n:did-lock-poker-cover-up-the-chip-dump:I have called the integrity of Lock into question} in the past and I was happy to hear Todd “Dan Druff” Witteles further promote the facts and expose what is going on at Lock Poker.

However, Witteles demonstrated during his discussion of Barry Greenstein owing money to Full Tilt, that he can blur the line between opinion and fact and make logical missteps in his reasoning. At one point Witteles concluded that Greenstein, “seemed to be having financial trouble because otherwise he would have never gone to Full Tilt to borrow $400k.”

Though personally I am not a big fan of poker player interviews, I continued listening and was pleasantly surprised by the Will “The Thrill” Failla. Apparently Failla’s raw street-wise style also surprised Johnny Sep as the host was clearly flustered when his guest threw him a curve to open the discussion. If you can listen beyond the crazy character persona, there is a lot of good information and insight into a winning tournament poker player.

The 2+2 PokerCast this week featured none other than pokerfuse editor and co-founder Nick Jones. Nick takes Adam and Mike through all of the ins and outs of the PokerStars player meetings on the Isle of Man.

The guys also offer their opinions about the latest bump in the road in the Full Tilt poker deal. Millions in outstanding loans to hi profile poker players and GBT’s recent statements threatening to kill the deal that potentially would repay players world-wide if arrangements to repay the debts are not made, makes for some good poker listening.

I saw that Mike Fasso was returning to Ante Up! this week to talk about his trip to Macau. The thought of getting a trip report on Macau from a low stakes recreational player intrigued me so I gave it a listen.

I skipped around and caught the news just before the Macau discussion began. Perhaps running a poker news site myself makes me a bit more picky than the average listener, but I couldn’t help but be shocked that the boys completely misrepresented the situation with online poker in Nevada. Chris stated that Nevada was issuing licenses for online gaming that will take effect “when the federal government gives them the green light.”
Scott scoffed that “Nevada has dozens of companies licensed now to do nothing.”

It is clear that they don’t read pokerfuse because if they did, they would know that Nevada isn’t waiting on anything to proceed with intrastate online poker and they have been planning on proceeding with it even before the DOJ reinterpreted the Wire Act back in December.

Now I understand that Ante Up! is geared more towards recreational players, they are not a hardcore news site and that everyone makes mistakes from time to time, but knowing that they provide news updates to other podcasts makes me hold them to a higher standard.

Anyway, the trip report was interesting and I think the show benefits from three in the booth. Perhaps the guys can work Fasso in by having him handle Columbo’s old duties instead of the guy that I ripped on last week.

That’s all for this week. As usual, feel free to leave your own reviews, rip on mine, or suggest other poker podcasts for my listening pleasure.
