GGPoker recently rolled out a promotion for players on its dot-com platform, offering a $100,000 freeroll every week. Now, the operator is making sure Ontario online poker players aren’t left behind, introducing a similar initiative for them as well.
Since the middle of this month, GGPoker Ontario has been running a dedicated freeroll series for its Canadian province, distributing a total of C$100,000 across all scheduled freeroll events.
There is genuinely no catch—no buy-in, no hidden conditions. The freerolls are available to both brand-new and long-time players, and they are planned to run every week until mid-February, though GGPoker told pokerfuse that it may extend the promotion if needed.
These freerolls take place every weekday from Monday through Friday. Mondays feature the biggest tournaments of the week, each one branded as a Mega edition with C$5,000 guaranteed, while all other weekday freerolls award C$1,000.
In total, that amounts to roughly C$100,000 literally being given away for free over the next two months.
There is one small caveat: the prizes come in the form of Cash Dollars, which can only be used to play cash games. Still, the promotion is substantial and designed to boost engagement in Ontario without players having to deposit anything.
The operator has structured these freerolls to avoid dragging on too long while also ensuring they do not wrap up too quickly. Players receive a 10,000-chip starting stack, equivalent to 100 big blinds, with blinds beginning at 50/100 and increasing every five minutes. Each freeroll pays out 20% of the field, so if 1,000 players enter, 200 places will receive a payout. Every freeroll has a minimum requirement of 30 players and a maximum capacity of 5,000 entrants.

Freerolls: The Best Bankroll Builder
Freerolls have long been a staple tactic for operators looking to attract new players and retain existing ones. In earlier years, rooms such as PokerStars and Full Tilt leaned heavily on freerolls to build loyalty. PokerStars notably ran four $1 million freerolls in 2016 after revamping its rewards program, and before that, offered quarterly $1 million freerolls exclusively to its top-tier VIP members.
888poker is another example of an operator that has used freerolls extensively as part of its promotional strategy.
Even after more than 25 years of online poker, it is clear that freerolls continue to be viewed as an effective tool by poker operators.
On the dot-com platform, GGPoker has rolled out its Weekly Freeroll, offering a $100,000 tournament every Saturday. However, players must earn entry by qualifying through daily freerolls or by depositing and playing real-money hands. There is no set end date, suggesting this may evolve into a long-term recurring feature on GGPoker.
GGPoker is also running a separate promotion tailored for players in the UK and Ireland, the £2K Face-Off Freeroll, designed to drive new sign-ups. New players registering between October 1 and November 30 receive access to these exclusive weekday freerolls, held daily at 8 PM UK time. The launch aligns with the operator’s latest marketing push in the region, featuring TV and billboard ads with well-known English comedian Johnny Vegas.
WPT Global also recently wrapped up its massive $2 million Crazy Freeroll Series, which included $10K daily freerolls along with a $100K freeroll every Sunday. The series concluded only a short time ago.
But for those playing on GGPoker Ontario, no special conditions apply, and anyone is free to jump in and participate. For many, it represents an ideal way to build a bankroll without risking any money at all.
