When the registration first opened for WSOP Toronto, players came to the Great Canadian Casino in droves, creating a bit of a chaotic situation. Big lines and long waiting times marked those first few days, leading to some irate customers and negative feedback on social media.

Poker fans in Ontario were concerned that the first WSOP event in the province would go sideways, as organizers seemingly weren’t quite ready for the level of interest the series would generate.

However, according to the latest reports from the ground, those early issues are now behind us.

Now that cards have hit the table, WSOP and the Great Canadian seem to be going smoothly. While running such a big poker event was always going to be a challenge, it’s great to see that organizers have ensured that WSOP Woodbine is providing a great experience — and sets up a strong foundation for the future.

WSOPC Toronto Rises Up to the Task

The posts coming through social media channels have been telling a story much different from the one during the early registration period. According to reports from multiple players on the ground, registration lines are more than reasonable, events are starting on time, and everyone’s getting seated as scheduled.

There are also cash games running on the side, although the number of tables each day is limited, at least until tournament tables start to break, freeing up some dealers.

The interest for WSOP Toronto has been unprecedented, and the venue has physical limitations, with the maximum of 45 tournament tables running at any given point. While players would certainly love this number to be bigger, it seems the organizers are doing the best they can with what they have available.

A strong turnout and a successful initial series, however, will help set good foundations for the future, providing incentives to try and expand the capacity for upcoming WSOP events in Ontario.

Still Time to Qualify for the Main Event Online

The WSOPC Toronto Main Event kicks off on March 28, with three starting flights on 28, 29, and 30. If you don’t want to miss out and would like to join the action, the good news is that there are still qualifiers running at both GGPoker and WSOP @ GGPoker Ontario.

On WSOP Ontario, there are two satellite events on March 24 and 25, awarding 10 Main Event seats. The buy-in for these is just CAD 50, and you can win your seat in the main satellite through step qualifiers starting as low as $1.

For players in Canada outside of Ontario, GGPoker will be hosting another WSOP Toronto Main Event satellite on March 25 with a buy-in of $100 and one seat guaranteed. There are also step qualifiers available in the client starting at $1.

With initial hurdles out of the way and things now running smoothly at Grand Canadian, there is even more reason to try and join the action. While we are certain there will be more WSOP events in Toronto in the future, there is something special about being part of that inaugural series, and with online satellites being so affordable, why not give it a shot?
