The East Coast poker scene scored a major win this week as officials at the World Poker Tour announced that its most prestigious event of Season XII, the $25k WPT World Championship, will be held at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City in 2014.

The move from Nevada to New Jersey marks the first time in 12 years that the WPT will not hold its championship event at the Bellagio.

In addition to announcing the move of the championship, the WPT also welcomed in a new sponsor for the event. Online poker site PartyPoker becomes the official sponsor of the Season XII World Championship. The sponsorship deal of the Championship comes on the heels of another partnership between PartyPoker and the WPT for a new 5-stop UK tour, announced last week.

PartyGaming—which merged with bwin Interactive Entertainment AG in 20011 to become bwin.party—acquired the WPT in 2009.

The union of the Borgata and the WPT also makes sense as the forthcoming legal online poker site—Borgatapoker.com—will be powered by bwin.party.

By the end of the season, the Borgata will be host to three of the WPT’s televised events in Season XII, which includes the WPT Borgata Poker Open that is currently underway.
