BetMGM Pennsylvania is celebrating the launch of its poker room with a whole week of freeroll tournaments. The site went live at the end of April, and the operator is keen to attract players in what is fast becoming one of the most competitive markets for regulated poker in the US.
Every freeroll has 15 prizes up for grabs in the form of event tickets and tournament dollars. There is a total $1562 worth of prizes in each event. The top prize every day is a $535 Entry to an Online Poker Open Event.
Whilst there are currently no further details, that name suggests that BetMGM PA is lining up its debut series.
The operator will be keen to drum up publicity. Tournament fields have so far been small, and several events have failed to make their guarantees in the early days of the poker room. This includes one of the site’s biggest attractions, The Daily $10K GTD.
The flagship tournament has regularly seen overlays of up to $3000 and plenty of other events have fallen short of projected numbers as well. Which means that BetMGM has had to stump up a lot of money in order to make up the remainder of the prize pools.
This kind of value, along with a week of freeroll tournaments, should help to attract players to latest Pennsylvania online poker site. Freerolls are open to all new poker players, as well as existing casino and sportsbook customers. Players are limited to one freeroll during the week and can claim entry through the Tickets menu in the client lobby.

A Tough Marketplace
BetMGM Poker PA}has only been live since April 29 so it is still very early days, but the operator will want to get the numbers up soon—especially as rival PokerStars PA has enjoyed such a successful start in the Keystone State.
For 18 months, it was the only online poker room in Pennsylvania and built up a large player base in short order. Its recent PASCOOP series has just come to an end, and saw $2.6 million of prizes generated in total.
On top of that, competition in the state is only likely to get tougher. In terms of population, Pennsylvania is the largest state to have regulated online poker and is therefore potentially one of the most lucrative markets currently available in the US.
Another Challenger Coming Soon
A further rival—WSOP PA—is slated to launch its poker room in the Keystone State any day now. Its partnership with 888poker will run on the operator’s brand new Poker 8 software, which has been much praised and is highly anticipated.
Needless to say, an operator of this size and reputation is sure to make waves when it enters the market, so BetMGM will want to have a strong foothold in PA when that happens.
It has been a tough start for BetMGM Poker PA but there are encouraging signs. The opening freeroll event on Sunday enticed 503 players to the virtual felt. No other tournament came close to those numbers on the day, but it shows that BetMGM PA has the potential to attract big tournament fields in the future.
Opening Weeks Daily Freerolls start at 18:00 EDT and are running until Saturday May 15. Further details on target tournaments and a possible online series are likely to be released in the coming days.
