Global Poker is back with its Micro Thunder Series, running September 19 – 26. It features SC (Sweeps Coins) 48,500 worth of guarantees—equivalent to $48,500 in USD—across 26 tournaments.
This is a small drop compared to the earlier iteration of the series, which had $50,000 in guarantees, but there is plenty of action to be had.
Like always, the room will also run a concurrent GC (Gold Coins) series for those players who want to join the fun but do not want to risk their Sweeps Coins. Both series feature trophies and special limited-edition prizes on top of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins, increasing their appeal.
- Operating a sweepstakes model, Global Poker provides a legal social online poker site for US players
- Verification bonus: 20 Sweeps Coins (SC) after verifying your account
- Boost on the first purchase: get a total of 40 SC on the first $20 purchase
A Bankroll-friendly Series
Like the name suggests, Micro Thunder Series III is designed to attract players with smaller bankrolls and give them a chance to battle it out on the virtual felt and win big prizes. Buy-ins start as low as SC 1.1 and do not go over SC 5.5.
The only exception is the Main Event, which features the buy-in of SC 11.
In total there are 10 distinct events in Micro Thunder Series, with all but two of them available in one of three tiers, Low, Medium, and High. Most Low events have a buy-in of SC 1.1; the Medium’s SC 2.2, and High’s SC 3.3, though things different for the final events of the series.
Notably, Event #8, PKO, the buy-ins increase, as do Event #9’s Main Events.
Micro Thunder Series III: Buy-ins At Each Tier
|Tier||Events 1-7 Buy-in||#8 PKO Buy-in||Main Event Buy-in|
|Low||SC 1.1||SC 2.2||SC 3.3|
|Medium||SC 2.2||SC 3.3||SC 5.5|
|High||SC 3.3||SC 5.5||SC 11|
Of course, players are welcome to participate in all tiers and they can play in all three tournaments simultaneously, but Global Poker decided to structure things this way so to make the series approachable to everyone.
There is SC 48,500 guaranteed across the series, and individual tournaments offer guarantees from SC 1000 to SC 4000. The SC 11 Main Event, taking place on September 26, promises the highest prize pool of SC 10,000.
There are also two special events with just one tier – #2 PLO tournament and #9 Crazy Pineapple event, both with the buy-in of just SC 1.1 and the guarantee of SC 350.
Players need just SC 68.2 (equivalent of $68.20) to enter every single tournament of the series and compete over the entire SC 48,500 guarantee.

The Main Event
The Main Event represents the culmination of the Micro Thunder Series III and takes place on September 26. There are three separate tiers:
- Low: SC 3.3 and SC 2000 guaranteed
- Medium: SC 5.5 and SC 3500 guaranteed
- Low: SC 11 and SC 10,000 guaranteed
All three tournaments feature deep structures, so players will get a lot of play for their buy-in, adding an extra incentive to get involved.
Gods of Thunder Tournaments Are Back
Like the last time, Global Poker will hold Gods of Thunder events for all the GC and SC tournament final tablists. This tournament is scheduled to take place on October 3, once the series wraps up and players have had a chance to get some rest.
The Sweeps Coin even will feature final table players from all SC events and there is SC 2000 up for grabs. On top of this, the last person standing will also receive a special trophy and a God of Thunder hoodie, while all who make it to the final table will get a God of Thunder T-shirt.
Players who made final tables in GC events will have their own Gods of Thunder tournament, where the winner will take home a trophy, while everyone on the final table will get hoodies. All players who make it past the bubble will also receive God of Thunder T-shirts.
All in all, Micro Thunder Series III promises quality action, great prizes, and some good fun to be had along the way. Keep in mind that Global Poker is the only poker room in the US that accepts players from all states (except Washington) and offer real money cash prizes.
Micro Thunder is one of the best ways to get acquainted with the site, whether you’re interested in playing with Sweeps Coins, that award real cash prizes, or just playing for fun with Gold Coins.
