WPT Global Tournaments: Here's Everything You Need to Know WPT Global Tournaments: Here's Everything You Need to Know

WPT Global is the newest poker room to appear in the international market, and the operator is starting to leave its mark. Just recently, the room launched its first poker series, aptly named the Summer Festival, offering ambitious guarantees, with two events guaranteeing a $1,000,000 prize pool.

To help meet these huge guarantees, some WPT Global tournaments are structured differently than most online tournaments, with several initial flights leading up to the final day. While this is nothing new on the online poker streets, it is a more common occurrence here than at most other sites, so here is a quick breakdown explaining what you can expect from WPT Global tournaments.

WPT Global Major Events Highlights

  • Many headline tournaments feature several initial flights spread across several days.
  • Re-entries are allowed.
  • You can play as many Day 1 flights as you like, and the best-stack-forward policy applies.
  • A certain percentage of players from each initial flight advance to the final day.

Making Your Way to Big Prizes at WPT Global

When it comes to tournaments with huge guarantees, like the $1 For $1 Million or the $1,000,000 Summer Festival Main Event, WPT Global offers several Day 1 flights leading up to the final day. The number of initial flights varies, depending on how many entries are required to meet the guarantee.

For example, initial flights can start a week, ten days, or even a month before the final day, taking place once or twice a day on particular days. For the $1 For $1 Million tournament, there are Day 1 flights taking place twice each Wednesday and Sunday up until August 22.

A certain percentage of the players who survive any individual flight will move on to the final day. The number is usually over 10% and can be as high as 30%. Depending on the prize structure and whether the tournament has an overlay, it is possible for all players who make it to Day 2 to already be in the money when the play starts.

Players can make as many rebuys as they like into any individual flight, and the late registration usually lasts between two and three hours. While registering super-late may not be the best option, waiting for a little while and jumping in an hour into the tournament makes sense, as many players will already be eliminated.

You can enter as many Day 1 flights as you like, even after you qualify for Day 2. If you get through more than once, WPT Global will apply the best-stack-forward policy, meaning you will get to start the play with the biggest accumulated stack. On the flip side, all your other entries will be removed (but the money you paid for them will remain in the prize pool, of course).

Regular Tournaments at WPTG

Of course, not all MTTs on the WPT Global schedule are structured like this, as that would not be best suited for recreational players who may not always be able to plan several days ahead. Plenty of tournaments start and finish the same day, running for no more than four or five hours at a time.

The daily schedule is solid and constantly growing, with tournament buy-ins starting at just $2 and going up to $100 and more. The operator has recently even introduced satellites for a major live WPT event in Las Vegas later this year.

In addition to Texas Hold’em, you will find a fair number of PLO events and Short Deck tournaments, which seem to attract a good number of players. And for those looking for value, we must mention that overlays are still very common. This will probably change as WPT Global grows and attracts more players, but this is the current state of affairs.
