WPT Global Tournaments

WPT Global features a solid daily and weekly schedule of poker tournaments right now, and since the inception, the room has organized several major events with big prize pools, often featuring significant overlays.

The regular MTT schedule consists of Hold 'em and PLO tournaments of different levels, starting at $2 at the bottom of the spectrum, and going up to $220. Guaranteed prize pools are still somewhat modest for daily tournamnets (up to $5000 for the most part), but big guarantees during major series more than make up for this.

As for the tournament types, you will find standard freezeouts, knockouts, progressive knockouts (PKOs), and some other exciting formats. Overall, WPT Global has done a decent job with its MTT schedule, constantly improving, innovating, and not being afraid to put up big guarantees.

$1-for-$1-Million Event

WPT Global hosted one of the best-value tournaments online poker has ever seen, offering players a chance to compete for a guaranteed prize pool of $1,000,000 for just a $1 buy-in.

Running for several months, the tournament offered several Day 1 flights every week, with 20% of the field from each starting flight advancing to Day 2 taking place on October 2.

Poker Flips

Looking to add some variety to the mix, WPT Global introduced Poker Flips, a special game type that allows players to bet on outcomes of hands played between two computer-generated opponents.

There are different betting options: betting on the winner, predicting a tie, and betting that a particular hand (like trips, flush, or full house) will occur. Payouts are adjusted based on mathematical odds.

While players do not actively participate in the game as they do not make any decisions after placing their original bets, Poker Flips are an interesting new format, and WPT Global added special leaderboards to award the most active players with cash prizes and even packages to the big $15,000,000 GTD WPT World Championship in Las Vegas.

WPT Global Spins

In November 2023, WPT Global introduced another new game format, Global Spins. Global Spins are the operator’s version of the popular jackpot sit and go format, following the usual setup for these games, but with one interesting twist.

These tournaments feature buy-ins between $1 and $250 and the maximum prize multiplier of 6000 times the stake. However, 1% of every buy-in is also taken out and added to the progressive jackpot pool. When a game with the maximum win multiplier triggers at the certain level, the winner receives not only the top prize of 5000x the stake, but also the full amount of the jackpot accumulated up to that point.

Global Spins are fast-paced games with blind levels increasing every three hands. However, the starting stack size is determined based on the win multiplier, so the games with higher multipliers start with more chips and play slightly deeper.

WPT Global Cash Games

The cash game action at WPT Global is excellent. At the time of writing this review, offered games include No-Limit Hold’em and Short Deck (6+ Hold 'em), but Pot-Limit Omaha will probably be introduced soon as it is already available for tournament play.

Cash tables are available in two currencies — USD and Chinese Yuan (CNY). This allows for a vast spread of stakes, from true micros (under NL2) up to $5/10. There are plenty of games running around the clock, although the highest stakes games do not go off as frequently.

Players looking for more action can find it at Bomb Pot tables, where bomb pots occur about five times an hour and tables with mandatory straddles. WPT Global also features Pace, its unique version of fast-fold Hold’em, where players can immediately fold their hands and get dealt into a new one without delays.

The operator is also looking to add Splash games, which will feature large preflop antes to create games with even more action and bigger pots.

WPT Global App and Software

WPT Global focuses on the mobile segment of poker players, so the WPT Global app has been developed following all modern standards and expectations. There is also a desktop client that does the job decently well, but it is clear that this is a mobile-first poker operator.

Reliability

From our testing, the WPT Global mobile app is relatively stable and reliable. There are occasional delays that can be a bit annoying sometimes, but these are not frequent and do not seriously influence the gaming experience as a whole.

The desktop software is also solid, although things may get a bit slow when trying to play multiple tables. While it is not on the same level as its competition, it more than meets the needs of most players.

Functionality

The app offers the modern portrait layout that most players seem to prefer. You can easily navigate different lobbies (MTT, NLH, and 6+ Hold’em), and there are all sorts of filters to narrow your search by game type, stake, format, and more.

You can choose from different backgrounds and several decks (back and front) at the tables. Play controls are pretty decent, although custom-sized bets will take some getting used to as they are adjusted using a slider. Appearance
