KGC Renews Full Tilt's Secondary License KGC Renews Full Tilt's Secondary License

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC) has renewed the Secondary Client Provider Authorization (CPA) for Full Tilt Poker. Secondary CPAs are issued to sites that have a “valid license to operate interactive gaming issued by a comparable jurisdiction.”

According to the KGC’s regulations (PDF), once Full Tilt Poker’s license was suspended by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC), FTP was required to apply for a primary license through the KGC within 30 days. Failing to do so allowed the KGC, at their own discretion, to suspend or revoke the Secondary CPA.

But the KGC opted not to suspend or revoke FTP’s Secondary CPA. Instead, according to an announcement Friday, they chose to approve their application for renewal. They explained that although FTP’s primary license is “presently suspended pending the outcome of a hearing,” their license at the KGC is “still considered to be valid.”

Soon after the AGCC suspended FTP’s license, fulltiltpoker.com was traced to servers within the Kahnawake Territory. Many speculated that FTP would try to reopen under the Kahnawake jurisdiction, but that did not happen, and soon after the server was tracing back through the British Channel Islands.

It is unclear whether the renewal of the Secondary CPA will have any impact on FTP’s operation; the wording of the announcement can be interpreted as a willingness of the KGC to issue a license in the event that they cannot meet the AGCC’s requirements for reinstatement. The AGCC will continue the hearings on FTP’s suspension no later than September 15th 2011.
