Photo Journalist Jay “WhoJedi” Newnum Charged With Larceny
Popular poker tournament photographer and videographer Jay “WhoJedi” Newnum was charged this past December with 5th degree larceny in the state of Connecticut allegedly for stealing dealer tip money from the poker room at Foxwoods Casino.
- Popular poker tournament photographer and videographer Jay “WhoJedi” Newnum was charged this past December with 5th degree larceny in the state of Connecticut.
- Newnum was subject to an on-site arrest on December 16, 2013 and had the case disposed of on December 24 by applying for Accelerated Pretrial Rehabilitation.
- Typically with judgments that are associated with Accelerated Pretrial Rehabilitation, the plea is withdrawn and after 20 days of acceptance and the court file becomes non-disclosed.
Ole Schemion wins 2013 GPI Player of the Year
This week it was made official, German phenom Ole Schemion earned himself the title of the 2013 Global Poker Index Player Of The Year. The 21-year old professional poker player earned in excess of $1.6 million finding success in tournaments all over the world including landing 6-figure cashes at the 2013 PCA, the Lebanese Poker Tour, EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, EPT Barcelona and EPT Prague.
- Schemion’s performance down the stretch made the difference.
- The entire last quarter of the year he was chasing the World Series of Poker Player of the Year, Daniel Negreanu, who held the #1 spot right through late December. Negreanu, who ended the year in the #2 spot, also had an incredible year cashing for roughly $3.1 million.
- With the title, Schemion has earned his second GPI award having won Rookie of the Year in 2012.

- Online poker players at the New Jersey partypoker site will have the chance “to win regular, courtside and VIP box seats to every New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers home game.”
- The use of bwin.party’s European sponsorship strategy which integrates branding across all media channels is, according to the press release, “the first of its kind for US-based sports organizations.”
NJ Poker Operators Sending Free Wifi Adapters to Solve Geo-location Issues
PartyPoker, 888 and soon WSOP are sending free hardware to poker players with wifi verification issues.
- In order to comply with the regulations of New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, poker rooms must ensure that players are located within the state at all times to play for real money.
- There are reports from players having difficulty verifying across all the major New Jersey operators; some frustrated players have reportedly been being booted out midway through tournaments.
- In an attempt to curb the problems, operators are sending free wireless adapter cards, or wifi “dongles,” to players who have issues.
PokerStars Bonus Challenge Aims to Boost Action on Full Tilt
PokerStars players who transfer $10 to Full Tilt and play a Sit and Go earn a freeroll tournament ticket.
- Continuing the trend towards missions and achievements, the PokerStars January Daily Challenges promotion asks players to complete a task that varies every day.
- Unusually, Pokerstars has included a bonus challenge designed to encourage its players to open accounts on its sister site Full Tilt Poker.
- Not for the first time, but slightly unusual for PokerStars, players who want to take part in the January promotion have to opt in. Historically, PokerStars has used automatic opt ins for its promotions.
Daniel Negreanu Loses #1 Spot on GPI Index to Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion is the new number one after a 7th place in the PCA Super High Roller.
- Daniel Negreanu, has dropped to second place on the Global Poker Index (GPI) ranking of tournament players.
- Schemion’s 7th place finish in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Super High Roller earned him $277k and a return to the top of the rankings.
- He was number one for a week in mid-October.
