The late registration period for GGPoker’s WSOP Online Main Event has now officially closed, and the final figures are in.

Today marked the last and final flight of the Main Event, which played as a freezeout, attracting 811 entries. This brought the overall tally across all Day 1 flights, held over a span of two weeks, to a total of 5,961 participants. With the buy-in set at $5,000, of which $4,750 was allocated toward the prize pool, the event generated a massive $28.3 million prize money.

Although this number fell short of last year’s record-breaking turnout of 6,146 players, it still represents the third-largest WSOP Online Main Event in history. For its efforts, the operator collected nearly $1.5 million in rake.

Interestingly, this mirrors the pattern seen in the live WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, which also ended up being the third-largest edition of all time this year, just like its online counterpart.

  • Total Players: 5,961

At present, the Main Event has progressed into Day 2 play and will eventually narrow down to the final table, scheduled to resume on September 23. The final table will be broadcast live on GGPoker.tv, the operator’s official YouTube channel, with coverage hosted by GGPoker ambassador Jeff Gross alongside the legendary 17-time WSOP bracelet winner, Phil Hellmuth.

Interestingly, Hellmuth serves as an ambassador for BetRivers, which also offers regulated online poker in the United States, and he has occasionally live-streamed his sessions on BetRivers Poker.

GGPoker’s decision to feature Hellmuth is notable, given his affiliation with a US competitor. However, Hellmuth’s stature in the poker world, known for his “Poker Brat” persona, tournament successes, and status as one of the game’s all-time greats, makes him an undeniable draw for any audience.

“We are incredibly excited to bring the WSOP Online 2025 action directly to our fans with these two live broadcasts,” said Paul Burke, Head of Public Relations at GGPoker, in a recent press release. “Having Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu on air alongside Jeff Gross to break down the action will be a true treat. This will be more than just watching a final table; it’ll be a masterclass in poker strategy from two of the best to ever play the game.”

History of Record-Breaking Fields

Turning back to the Main Event itself, this year’s edition represents yet another remarkable accomplishment for GGPoker. With this latest showing, the five largest online poker tournaments in history have all taken place under this very event on the GGPoker platform.

The inaugural 2020 edition attracted 5,802 entries, building a prize pool of $27,559,500. That performance earned the tournament an official Guinness World Record for the largest prize pool in a single online poker tournament.

The following year, as the effects of the pandemic-driven online poker boom diminished, the guarantee was reduced to $20 million. Participation dipped to 4,092 players, resulting in an overlay of $563,000. However, in 2022, the $20 million guarantee was decisively surpassed when 4,984 entries produced a $23,674,000 prize pool.

In 2023, the guarantee was increased to $25 million, drawing a record-setting 6,023 players and surpassing the previous high from 2020. In 2024, with the same $25 million guarantee, the tournament reached another all-time high, this time with 6,146 players. Although this year’s total dipped slightly to 5,961, it still represents an extraordinary figure.

The eventual champion of this event will not only claim the coveted WSOP gold bracelet and a massive payout, but also receive a $30,000 Super Pass as part of newly launched WSOP Express qualification system. This package includes entry to the WSOP Paradise Super Main Event in the Bahamas, which carries a record-breaking $60 million guarantee, as well as luxury accommodations at Atlantis Resorts and additional perks.

At the time of writing, more than 400 players remain in contention. The final table is projected to produce between five and six millionaires.
