Offshore-crypto based online poker room CoinPoker rolled out a brand-new poker client earlier this month, and while most of the attention has gone to its long list of features and promotions, there’s a more interesting story behind the software itself.

Under the surface, this is not entirely new software.

As reported by Poker Industry PRO, a closer look shows that CoinPoker’s latest client is built on technology developed by PokerBaazi, one of India’s largest and most advanced online poker sites. The similarities are hard to miss, from the layout and table design to the built-in tools and game formats.

CoinPoker has not publicly commented on the origin of the software, but for players familiar with PokerBaazi, the connection is clear.

A Big Upgrade, But Not Built From Scratch

The new client went live on March 2 after around 12 hours of downtime, following weeks of teasers and promotion. CoinPoker backed the launch with a 100% rakeback offer for March and a push from its ambassadors.

Anyone who has used the old client will notice the difference straight away.

The old client had been around for years and felt basic. The new one is far more modern. It includes a built-in HUD, analytics tools like PokerIntel, and features such as Showdown Meter and Skill Score. The hand replayer has been upgraded, player notes are easier to manage, and the overall interface is cleaner.

Game variety has expanded too. Players can now access formats like PLO6, Bomb Pots, and All-In or Fold, along with action features such as Splash the Pot, also known as Cash Drops.

There are also practical additions like Run It Multiple Times, EV Cashout, Chip Offload, and a Strength Indicator, along with social features like emojis and throwables, many of which are also offered by sweepstakes poker operator Clubs Poker.

Visually, everything has been refreshed. The lobby and tables are smoother, animations are cleaner, and the experience feels closer to what players might expect from top-tier platforms like GGPoker. The poker client also now sits alongside CoinPoker’s casino and sportsbook under a single interface.

Why PokerBaazi?

For players outside India, PokerBaazi may not be a familiar name. But within the country, it built a strong reputation for its software.

Operated by Baazi Games, the platform spent years developing a feature-rich client that, in some areas, rivals the biggest global sites. Many of the same tools and formats now seen on CoinPoker have existed on PokerBaazi for quite a while.

The connection becomes easier to understand when you look at what happened in India last year.

In August 2025, the government moved to ban online games played for real money. The impact was immediate. Major platforms, including PokerBaazi, stopped real-money operations, effectively shutting down the market overnight.

For PokerBaazi, that created a problem. It had invested years into building a sophisticated poker client, but suddenly had no real-money ecosystem to run it in.

At that point, the software itself became one of its most valuable assets.

In India, PokerBaazi has already moved to a free-play, subscription-based mobile model, leaving its desktop software with limited use. Rather than letting it sit unused, monetizing the technology was the next step. CoinPoker appears to have taken that route, adopting a platform that had already been developed and tested over time instead of building one from the ground up.

For players, the origin of the software matters less than how it plays, but in this case, the background helps explain why the new client feels so complete.

This is not a rushed rebuild. It is a platform that has already been used extensively before.

That said, the launch has not been perfect. Some players have reported crashes, lag, and issues with the cashier. There were also early concerns about potential security vulnerabilities, though CoinPoker responded quickly, saying any problems were resolved or did not affect player funds.

There has also been some pushback around rake changes introduced alongside the update.

Even so, the overall experience is a clear step up. The client offers more features, more game variety, and a smoother interface than before.
