Poker sites and the art of not sharing secrets.
Lee Jones takes a closer look at why online poker sites keep cheater info to themselves.
Even when a player, like the notorious 'Paul Gregg,’ is found using compromised poker apps to see hole cards, the news rarely travels beyond the site that catches them.
According to Jones, “The bottom line is that sites are very unlikely to share suspected cheater information with each other.”
A mix of legal headaches, data protection laws like GDPR, and commercial interests means sites play it close to the vest.
For players, that means the same scammer might show up on multiple sites before getting caught.
As Jones notes, “A site which has this sort of evidence and doesn’t act on it has abdicated its responsibility to its customers.” But sharing? That’s another story entirely.
