BetMGM Poker is ringing in the New Year with a full slate of progressive knockout tournaments, as it once again rolls out its popular New Year’s Knockout Series.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, the mini-series is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, December 30 and will run through Friday, January 2. The series is deliberately compact, featuring just 15 tournaments on the schedule, but still offers more than $175,000 in guaranteed prize money across the lineup.

The series is open to players in all three states where BetMGM Poker operates: New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with all three jurisdictions sharing the same combined player pool.

It is an ideal time to play, particularly for those missing out on live poker during the holiday lull, as many venues are on a seasonal hiatus and players are spending more time with friends and family. With limited live tournament options available, BetMGM Poker has stepped in by bringing back its New Year’s Knockout Series to fill that gap.

PKOs and Highlights

As the name suggests, the series is built entirely around the highly popular Progressive Knockout (PKO) format, promising an action-heavy experience throughout. Each event follows the same structure, with half of the buy-in going toward the main prize pool and the remaining half allocated to bounties. Players earn rewards by eliminating opponents, with bounty values increasing progressively as the tournament advances. With the lone exception of the freeroll, all tournaments allow unlimited re-entries.

The buy-in range is broad, starting with the date-themed $20.26 event on New Year’s Day and climbing to $500 for the opening tournament of the series. Between those endpoints, the operator is offering a strong mix of mid- and low-stakes options, including four tournaments priced at $25, three at $50, two at $100, and three at $250, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of bankrolls.

The series features a variety of formats, including 40-Stack PKOs, where players begin with 40 big blinds, alongside 6-Max PKOs, several turbo events, and a couple of Pot-Limit Omaha tournaments added to the mix.

Among the highlights is the opening event, a $500 PKO with a $40,000 guarantee, making it the largest tournament of the series. That event is followed by a $100 PKO offering a $10,000 guarantee. A $25 PLO PKO with a $3,000 guarantee is also on the schedule the same day. Additionally, players can enter a 40-Stack PKO boasting a $10,000 guarantee for a $40 buy-in, followed by a $250 PKO Turbo with $15,000 guaranteed. Rounding out the opening day is a $25 PKO Turbo guaranteeing $3,000.

New Year’s Eve features a lighter schedule, with the operator hosting only a freeroll. While free to enter, the event still carries a respectable $15,000 guaranteed prize pool. On New Year’s Day, four tournaments are scheduled with buy-ins of $250, $20.26, $50, and $25. Of those, three are NLHE events, while one is a PLO tournament. The series then concludes on January 2 with another four PKOs, featuring buy-ins of $250, $100, $50, and $20, and more than $41,000 in guaranteed prize money up for grabs.

Players can also expect BetMGM Poker to run satellite tournaments feeding into the series, offering lower-cost paths into the higher buy-in events.

Holiday Poker Elsewhere

At this time, no comparable series has been announced for BetMGM Ontario in Canada’s largest province. Instead, the operator is set to host the Ontario Winter Championship, which begins on January 5 and runs through January 20.

Elsewhere, WSOP has recently wrapped up its Winter Series, which offered more than $500,000 in guarantees, while PokerStars is currently running its 25 Days of Tournaments promotion, a now-regular fixture in the lead-up to Christmas and the New Year.

Under that format, tournaments and their guarantees are revealed just one day in advance, adding an extra layer of anticipation throughout the promotional period. The 25 Days of Tournaments promotion runs from December 6 through December 30.

BetRivers Poker has not yet announced a new tournament series of its own, though the operator remains active during the holiday period with a range of Christmas-themed promotions.
