The World Poker Tour (WPT) launched back in 2002 and has been one of the most recognizable brands in poker ever since. For most of that time, the WPT brand was only connected to the live tournament poker tour, but that has not been the case for some time.
Over the years, the Tour launched a variety of online poker brands, such as ClubWPT, WPT Global, and ClubWPT Gold, each aimed at different audiences and operating under a different gameplay model.
This variety of WPT brands has often caused some confusion, as the brands share similar names, but each represents a completely different product.
If you have wondered about this very issue, keep reading and learn more about each of the WPT brands, as we examine each site’s operating model, target audience, and other key differences.

What is the WPT?
Before we can explain each WPT online poker brand in detail, it’s worth looking at the main WPT brand itself and what it actually represents.
The WPT is one of the most popular and widespread poker tours in the world. Originally launched in 2002, the Tour has thrived for over two decades, continually offering some of the best tournament action anywhere in the world.
The WPT runs in seasons, with each new year also bringing a new season of the Tour. Each season includes stops in popular WPT venues like the Commerce Casino, Bay 101, and Seminole Hard Rock in Florida, among others.
Beyond the US, the WPT also features frequent festivals in Europe, Asia, and Australia, as well as the world’s biggest poker cruise.
The buy-in for WPT Main Events is typically $3,500. More recently, the WPT has also introduced a lower buy-in WPT Prime tour, where players can experience much of the WPT atmosphere while playing for lower stakes.

What Is ClubWPT?
ClubWPT was first established in 2008 as an innovative online poker platform aimed at the estimated 60,000,000 poker players across the United States of America.
Unlike many other poker sites that were available to Americans at the time, ClubWPT is not a real-money poker site, but a subscription-based online poker platform where players can compete for fixed prizes over the course of a month.
Each month, players at ClubWPT pay a subscription fee, with prices ranging from $27.95 to $149.95 per month. Depending on the subscription model, players can participate in a variety of poker tournaments on the platform each day and play for their share of $100,000 in prizes each month.
Prizes at ClubWPT include cash, but also valuable entry tickets and packages to live WPT tournaments across the United States, including the prestigious WPT World Championship event in Las Vegas.
Today, ClubWPT subscriptions are available to players in 43 states across the US, as well as Australia, France, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

What Is WPT Global?
Launched in April 2022, WPT Global is one of the fastest-growing real-money online poker platforms in the world.
The site is part of the WPT family, but unlike the other WPT brands, is not targeted at American poker players or markets.
WPT Global is headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus, and its online poker platform offers real-money cash games and tournaments across all stakes to players from dozens of countries around the world.
Some of the key markets for WPT Global include Asian and South American countries, although players from a number of European countries are also welcome to play.
WPT Global does not accept players from many markets that have a locally regulated online poker market, such as Germany, France, the United States, Sweden, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. It is also not active in black markets, such as China and Russia.
Players from the accepted markets can sign up with WPT Global and play real-money online poker games along with WPT brand ambassadors such as Phil Ivey, Fintan Hand, and Andressa Lincoln.

What Is ClubWPT Gold?
In early 2025, WPT launched its latest online poker brand, ClubWPT Gold, following a few months of buildup and a spectacular $5,000,000 freeroll played live at the 2024 WPT World Championship.
ClubWPT Gold launched as a sweepstakes poker site, using the same sweepstakes poker model that the likes of Clubs Poker had used in the past with success.
The sweepstakes poker model included a dual-currency system, which allowed players to win Sweeps Coins and exchange them for real money at any time.
ClubWPT Gold originally launched for American players only, but expanded to online poker in Canada as well, in late 2025.
Over the course of the year, a number of states cracked down on sweepstakes poker, with the likes of California and New York among those that expelled all sweepstakes sites from their borders.
ClubWPT Gold announced a big change to its model near the end of the year, looking to end its dual-currency system by introducing a GTO Training platform. The change was enough for the company to feel comfortable staying in California and reentering New York, two of the states with the most restrictive laws against sweepstakes poker.
Now, players at ClubWPT Gold can purchase training credits and receive “chips” as a reward for doing so. The chips (which are essentially sweepstakes entries) can be used to play poker on the platform and can be redeemed for cash prizes.
Key Facts on ClubWPT Gold
- Launched as a sweepstakes poker site in 2025
- Introduced a coaching-based component to its platform
- Allows redemption of chips for cash
- Operates in California and New York, along with other US states and parts of Canada
Ownership and Licensing: How the WPT Brands Connect
The World Poker Tour (WPT) has gone through many owners. Once upon a time, it was owned by PartyPoker. In 2015, it was sold to Ourgame International, a Chinese social gaming company. In 2019, it changed hands again, with the brand acquired by an investment company and made a part of Allied Esports Entertainment. In 2021, it was sold again, this time to Element Partners, LLC. Today, that brand is licensed out to several discrete products in both real-money and sweepstakes markets. Each uses the WPT brand under separate ownership or licensing arrangements.
WPT Global operates as an independent company under a licensing agreement with WPT, offering international real-money poker outside the United States. It functions separately from the live tour and other online WPT-branded sites.
ClubWPT is a sweepstakes-based poker platform available in eligible U.S. jurisdictions, carried under the WPT brand through an authorized relationship.
ClubWPT Gold is another branded online poker property using the WPT name under license. Like the others, it operates as a distinct platform with no shared player pool or technology crossover.
Together, these products illustrate how the WPT brand has been extended through a mix of direct ownership and independent licensing partnerships — unified by shared marketing and brand identity but separated by structure and regulation.
