The popular UK Poker League (UKPL) is coming to Manchester in September, and 888poker is giving all players from the United Kingdom a chance to qualify for the Main Event via a special challenge leading to a big freeroll that will send 30 players to the tournament.

UKPL Manchester is the penultimate event of the season, coming on the heels of Luton, Blackpool, and Reading South festivals. It is set to take place Sep 15 — 20, 2026.

The qualifying freeroll happens on Sep 6, which means that all 30 who navigate their way through the field will have enough time to organize their schedules. And for those who’d like to get involved, getting a seat in that freeroll isn’t hard at all.

Every Tournament Counts

There is just one path leading to the UKPL Manchester freeroll, and it is straight and simple. Players from the UK need to play at least 40 tournaments in the weeks leading up to the freeroll (up to Sep 5) with buy-ins of at least £5. Regular and BLAST tournaments count, which makes reaching the required number that much easier.

The freeroll takes place on Sep 6, and all players from the UK who meet the requirement will get a seat. The tournament will award 30 seats for the £560 Main Event.

Once you meet the qualifying requirement, you can expect the freeroll ticket to appear in your account within 72 hours. You then need to use that ticket and register for the freeroll before the start time. This is important to remember as you won’t be entered into the tournament directly — you’ll need to manually use your ticket.

UKPL Is Having a Season for History Books

Live poker continues to boom across the map, and the UK Poker League has been feeling the effects of that boom. This year’s season has already seen some historic results.

The season-opening event in Luton attracted 556 entries, creating the largest prize pool in UKPL’s history. The players got to battle it out for just over £264,000, with the winner taking home £56,700.

The Blackpool Main Event brought us a story that we still look back at several months later. In a field of 318 entries, it was the 83-year-old Lilian Welch capturing the title and a payday of over £31,000. It was the biggest single win of Welch’s career for the Grosvenor Casino regular who’s been playing poker for over a decade.

In July, UKPL Reading South saw a similar turnout, with the Main Event featuring 313 entries. Adam Wilkinson managed quite a comeback story in that tournament, returning from just five big blinds to win the whole thing and pocket £32,010.

All of this indicates that the Manchester stop of the UK’s favorite poker league will be a good one. As always, 888poker is working behind the scenes to qualify as many players as possible, and the new challenge is a significant part of those efforts, guaranteeing that at least 30 players will get a shot.

Of course, there are also regular qualifiers running on the platform and open to UK players, so there are different paths for those looking to get involved.

The UK Poker League may not be the biggest poker festival out there but, over the years, it certainly has won its place in players’ yearly calendars. Bringing a mix of affordable buy-ins, substantial prize pools, and friendly vibes, it is the kind of series that all players can enjoy, regardless of their bankrolls or skill level.
