The first-ever WSOP Super Circuit in Montreal at Playground Club is done and dusted, and the series delivered numbers well beyond its already ambitious expectations.

Held from August 26 to September 12, the festival featured 18 ring events with C$14 million in guaranteed prize money, the largest guarantee ever offered for a poker series in Canada. By the time the final ring had been awarded, the series had generated C$24.5 million in total prize money from 14,784 entries, putting it C$10.5 million above its original guarantees.

Several events set new records along the way, including the largest poker tournament ever held at Playground and the biggest field in the venue’s history. That record belongs to the C$500 Mini Main Event, which attracted 3,484 entries across five starting flights. It generated C$1,470,248 in prize money and comfortably eclipsed Playground’s previous attendance record.

A Record Main Event

The C$5,000 Main Event, however, was the clear centerpiece of the series. Carrying a massive C$10 million guarantee, the tournament attracted 2,844 entries and produced C$12,689,928 in prize money, surpassing its guarantee by a considerable margin.

Mayukh Chakraborty claimed the record-setting Main Event title, earning C$1,500,000 and a prestigious WSOP Circuit gold ring. He defeated a final table that included four-time WSOP bracelet winner Chance Kornuth and runner-up Benjamin Veenstra.

GGPoker ambassador and eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu also made a deep run, reaching Day 4 before being eliminated by Kornuth in 99th place for C$14,500.

According to GGPoker, 18% of the Main Event field, or approximately 507 entries, qualified through online satellites hosted on the operator’s platform. Those qualifiers collected C$2,876,857 of the C$12.7 million prize pool.

Two of those online qualifiers went even further, reaching the final table after investing a combined C$300 through GGPoker’s WSOP Express qualifiers. Jonathan Bussieres and Felipe Baraky each turned a $150 satellite entry into a spot at the final table of the largest prize pool in Canadian poker history. Bussieres finished fifth for C$500,000, while Baraky took sixth place for C$400,000.

The Mini Main and Main Event both comfortably surpassed Playground’s previous record of 1,978 entries, set by the 2025 WSOP Circuit Main Event. The new figures mark a big increase in participation for the venue’s biggest tournaments.

Several other ring events also produced sizeable fields and prize pools. The C$1,000 Mystery Bounty attracted 1,194 entries and generated C$1,036,571 in prize money, while the C$2,300 Super Circuit Canadian Championship drew nearly 1,000 entries and created a prize pool of more than C$2 million.

The C$14,000 GGMillion$ High Roller attracted 134 entries for a C$1,728,734 prize pool, while the C$600 Ultra Stack drew 1,691 entries and generated C$861,141 in prize money.

With C$24.5 million awarded across the festival, the series finished more than 70% above its C$14 million in guarantees. It also set a new record for total prize money generated at Playground, surpassing the previous high of C$15.54 million.

There was also an added incentive for the 18 ring winners. Each received a $5,000 WSOP Paradise package, which includes entry into the $2,750 No-Limit Hold’em WSOP Circuit Championship Mystery Bounty and four complimentary nights at the Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar Resort.

Next on the Calendar

Playground Montreal will host another WSOP Circuit series from November 2 to 17. While it will be considerably smaller than the Super Circuit, the festival still carries more than C$5.5 million in guarantees across 18 ring events, including a C$2.5 million guaranteed Main Event. Expect online qualifiers on GGPoker to run again.

The Montreal festival marked a major milestone for poker in Canada as the first WSOP Super Circuit series held in the country. Following its record-setting run, the Super Circuit will next head to King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czechia, for the inaugural WSOP Super Circuit KINGS. The series is scheduled to run from October 28 through November 11.

Following WSOP Paradise 2026, the series will return to the Americas for another first. Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, will host the inaugural WSOP Super Circuit LATAM from January 24 through February 2, 2027, bringing the Super Circuit series into a new year with another major international stop.
